Miller & Chevalier Chartered Charitable Foundation
The Miller & Chevalier Chartered Charitable Foundation was created in 1929 by Robert N. Miller as a charitable corporation under District of Columbia law. In recent years, the Foundation has focused on health and welfare groups and minority organizations operating in the Washington metropolitan area. The Foundation also supports various charitable and educational organizations related to the practice of law, such as the District of Columbia Legal Aid Society. Miller & Chevalier employees are encouraged to suggest worthy recipients of Foundation grants, which are awarded annually.
Community Service Programs
Community service programs run throughout the year at Miller & Chevalier with participation by all employees. Fundraising events and receiving organizations are nominated by firm employees. Examples of recent efforts include:
- Denim for Charity. Every month, we have "Denim for Charity Day" on the last Friday of the month. Employees may wear denim on these days with a $5 minimum charitable donation. The denim day funds are pledged to organizations such as the Legal Aid Society, DC Bar Foundation, and the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.
- Holiday Charity Fund. During the winter holiday season, Miller & Chevalier holds several fund raising activities such as a used book, CD, and DVD sale, Change for Charity, and a raffle. Organizations receiving funds include: DC Central Kitchen; Pathways to Housing DC (providing housing and services to chronically homeless individuals with serious mental illnesses living on the streets of Washington, D.C.); and Donors Choice (projects that provide funds for teachers in Washington, D.C. to purchase books, supplies, and equipment for D.C. elementary, middle, and high schools).
- School Supply Drive: Firm employees each year collect and donate over 100 backpacks, as well as hundreds of notebooks, folders, binders, and supplies, for D.C. metro area schools.
- Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. The Angel Tree Program provides Christmas gifts to children in the District of Columbia who might otherwise receive no gifts. Miller & Chevalier employees sponsored 150 children last year.
- Natural Disaster Relief. We are a community that strives to contribute generously to relief funds for the victims of natural disasters. Miller & Chevalier employees have collected and donated money for the victims of hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and floods.
- Other ways Miller & Chevalier has participated in helping the community
- Races, Walks and Rides for causes such as Lawyers Have Heart and Breaking the Cycle
