Dyson presents on the topic "PAYROLL AND EMPLOYMENT TAXES: UPDATE ON EMPLOYEE/INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR INITIATIVES, REPORTING AND FRINGE BENEFIT ISSUES" – This session will focus on the latest employment classification, reporting, and payroll tax issues affecting taxpayers, including the “Questionable Employment Tax Practice” initiatives launched by the IRS, PEO/co-employment arrangements, new regulations on employment tax reporting, new rules for correcting previously-filed employment tax returns, developments in the fringe benefit and business expense areas, and other issues being raised by the IRS that affect employment tax liabilities.

James Atkinson presents on the topic "HOT TOPICS IN TAX ACCOUNTING" – This program will provide participants an overview of the most significant recent developments in the area of federal tax accounting. Topics may include a discussion of the anticipated “tangibles regulations” governing the deductibility of costs to acquire, improve, or repair tangible property; the IRS’s proposed overhaul of its accounting method change program; the treatment of gift card revenue, casualty losses, government incentive payments, and other “Tier 1” and “Tier 2” tax accounting issues likely to attract IRS scrutiny on audit; anticipated developments affecting inventory accounting; an overview of the new bonus depreciation and other tax accounting incentives contained in the 2008 Economic Stimulus Act and other recent legislation; and other expected – and unexpected – tax accounting developments.
