Washington, D.C., January 6, 2014 -- Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced that Linda E. Carlisle has joined the firm as a Member in the Tax Department. Carlisle comes to the firm from White & Case, where her practice focused on the taxation of corporations and flow-through entities in a broad range of industries, including energy and financial services.

"Miller & Chevalier is the perfect environment for my practice and the many industries I will continue to serve," Carlisle said. "I am excited to join this deep bench of tax attorneys, who have unparalleled knowledge and talent. I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues, who I have respected and admired for many years."

"A number of us have known Linda for many years through mutual client work and professional activities. We are thrilled that she is bringing her extraordinary talents, diverse practice and high energy to Miller & Chevalier," said Patricia Sweeney, Chair of the firm's Tax Department and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. "The addition of her practice, which includes international tax, transfer pricing, financial products and tax policy matters, provides further breadth to our tax repertoire, consistent with our strategic goals."

Larry Gibbs, a Miller & Chevalier Member and former Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), agreed. "Linda and I have been friends since we worked together on the Tax Reform Act of 1986 while she was at the Treasury Department and I was at the IRS," Gibbs said. "She is the consummate tax professional who brings with her a wealth of experience and outstanding judgment in the Federal tax area, and we are fortunate and pleased to have her with us."

Carlisle's clients seek her counsel because of her significant experience in international tax, partnerships, transfer pricing, corporate tax and financial products. In addition to her extensive transactional practice, she has successfully guided her clients through difficult administrative proceedings and has a significant legislative and regulatory practice.

"We are very pleased to welcome Linda to the firm," said Anthony F. Shelley, Chair of Miller & Chevalier. "Linda has a national reputation as a high-caliber attorney and is a proven leader in the tax bar. She will be a valuable asset to our Tax Department and the diverse clients we serve in all of our practices."

As a recognized leader in the tax bar, Carlisle has chaired both the Tax Section and the Sections Council of the District of Columbia Bar Association. She also serves as an Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Taxation of Financial Instruments and the Journal of Financial Products. She is recognized as a nationally ranked tax lawyer in Chambers & Partners USA, Legal 500 and The Best Lawyers in America®, among other publications. Her past government experience includes service as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the Tax Legislative Counsel and as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy within the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
