IRS' New Whistleblower Statute Teleconference

Miller & Chevalier tax and litigation lawyers, including Don Rocen, who served as Deputy Chief Counsel (Operations) for the Internal Revenue Service until July 2007, held a complimentary teleconference on The New Tax Whistleblower Statute: Challenges and Implications.

The IRS' Whistleblower Office, which was established by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, was set up to process tips received from individuals who spot tax problems in their workplace while conducting day-to-day personal business, or anywhere else they may be encountered. Recently, the IRS issued Notice 2008-4, which provides guidance to potential whistleblowers on how to file claims under the new legislation. News reports indicate that whistleblowers already have submitted a number of large claims.
