Design Challenges with Wellness Programs Teleconference
05.29.08The Miller & Chevalier Employee Benefits practice held an invitation-only teleconference on Thursday, May 29th to discuss "Design Challenges with Wellness Programs." More and more employers are considering implementing or upgrading wellness programs in the workplace. When employers are designing either voluntary or mandatory wellness programs, there are a wide range of legal issues to be considered. HIPAA nondiscrimination rules apply to both voluntary and mandatory wellness programs. Employers implementing wellness programs offering incentives to participate need to consider whether the incentives may be provided on a tax-free basis or must be imputed as income to the employee. Mandatory wellness programs may raise concerns under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Learn about the various legal issues and how some of the cutting edge plan designs fit within these rules.
