Barry Pollack Quoted in Legal Times Regarding the FBI's Approach to Mortgage Fraud Investigations

"FBI Outlines Its Own Mortgage Scheme"
Legal Times
03.30.09Barry Pollack was quoted in an article detailing what FBI Director Robert Mueller calls a "narcotics-case approach" to investigating financial fraud. The FBI, swamped with more than 2,000 mortgage fraud investigations, is bundling multiple instances involving the same or similar types of fraud in order to emphasize speed and cooperation in resolving the cases. This strategy, according to Pollack, lends itself to quick cases and big headlines, but doesn't touch on the deeper probes that are needed to determine whether high-level decision-making at banks, mortgage companies and other institutions led to systemic fraud. "It's like approaching the war on drugs by going after low-level mules and street dealers," Pollack said. "It does nothing to stop the problem of narcotics trafficking."
