James Tillen Quoted Regarding Hospitality Risks in BHP's FCPA Violation Case in The Wall Street Journal

"The Morning Risk Report: BHP Case Highlights Hospitality Risks"
The Wall Street Journal
05.21.15James Tillen was quoted regarding BHP Billiton's alleged violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) for sponsoring foreign government officials' travel to attend the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) fined BHP $25 million in a rare case where travel and entertainment expenses comprised the bulk of the allegations, as opposed to only a small fraction of the FCPA case. This case is "likely going to have a further chilling effect" on companies providing hospitality at major events, Tillen said, such as the Olympics or the Super Bowl. Drawing on similar cases involving travel for officials, as well as on corruption surrounding the recent World Cup in Brazil, Tillen said, "Companies might think: Why even go there?"
